This pendant is 1900 It dates from the early 1900s and functioned as a religious piece of jewelry, fitting into the widespread tradition of Marian depictions. The hand-painted image, made using the enamel technique, depicts the Virgin Mary with the baby Jesus, an iconography that dates back to Renaissance and Baroque painting.19 –20 It was a popular motif until the turn of the 20th century and belongs to the category of so-called “devotional jewelry”.
