Brooches

The brooch is one of the oldest types of jewelry worn on clothing. Its precursors appeared as early as antiquity: fibulae originally served to fasten clothing, but over time they became increasingly decorative and evolved into an important part of wearing jewelry.

In later centuries, the brooch appeared primarily as a decorative piece of jewelry. Made of gold, silver, adorned with gemstones, pearls, or enamel, its design language always followed the taste of the given era. Flowers, leaves, animals, bows, portraits, and various symbols were equally favored motifs.

The brooch was traditionally worn on clothing, a coat, or a collar, but it could also adorn a hat and other clothing accessories. The special quality of an antique brooch is that in its small size, it often preserves the fashion and goldsmith artistry of an entire era.
